Name-dropping.
How often have you heard someone go "It was just recently that I was talking to so-and-so...." or "I can visit so-and-so anytime..."?
Quite often these honourable mentions are a turn-off rather than impress the intended audience. You often tend to tune out the speaker on such occasions. And also when you try and slip in such mentions apparently casually and unintentionally in conversation, it is quite noticeable more often than not.
